Attendee News 2024
NRG ATTENDEE NEWS 2024
This is a gathering of rodmakers put on for the attendees by the attendees. As such, there
will be things that don’t go smooth or are not even considered. Please have some patience.
An important component of most rodmakers gatherings is the ability to cast a variety of
different rods from different makers. PLEASE BRING SOME OF YOUR RODS TO
PUT IN THE ROD RACK FOR OTHERS TO CAST!
This year David Sarafin from Anglers Bamboo is offering a special bundle. It is at least 2 of
the XL culms and 6 of the regular size culms for $650. As many of you know, the price of
cane is going up and shipping is almost impossible and expensive. If you are interested in a
bundle or more, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY AUGUST 20. If you only want a few culms, let me
know and I will try and accommodate you.
This year’s workshop is on tuning your block planes. Steve Taylor will be showing how he
does it. Steve works with the Bamboo Bend Project in Grayling, MI. It is a program for Vets
to learn rodmaking. Steve refurbishes 9 1/2 ‘s and gives them away. He is always looking for
planes to refurbish, so if you have any you can donate to Steve, he would greatly appreciate
it. Bring your planes along so you can tune them during the workshop.
When you arrive, please check in and get your name badge. The WFSC is open to the public
and we only want attendees casting rods.
If you are interested in selling items, please know we have set aside Saturday afternoon for a
sell and swap. Also, this year we are going to open to the public after lunch on Saturday. This
is new and we will see how it goes. It is optional for rodmakers, but if you have rods you want
to sell, we are hoping for a descent turnout of people. See Paul Julias if you have any
questions.
406 lines will be here again this year if you need anything from them.
If you are thinking of hiring a guide for your Driftless adventure, please consider Erik Helm, he
has the experience you are looking for and is an active attendee of NRG.
Water and coffee will be available Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are still a few NRG
tumblers available for purchase. There is no alcohol permitted during the gathering hours.
There is plenty of time after the evening dinner.
The cell service in the valley is not very good. Keep this in mind. There is free wifi in the
clubhouse.
